Your Inner Writer
How to pull stories from your soul.
This is a meditative, mindful course. You learn ways to still listen to the tales you heard, lived or inherited. You learn how to ignore your inner critic and all your editors so that you can free-write, free-flow the stuff of your dreams and imaginings.
I teach you how to take the raw material from your ramblings. I show you the sweet stuff in your writings and how to shape it, ground it, weave love and imagery through it. You learn to try on other author’s styles, in order to find your own unique and original writer voice.
Poets, novelists, shamans, artists, playwrights and total beginners welcome.
My name is Orla Broderick. I was a nurse but I dreamed always of being some sort of writer. I started submitting short stories to competitions about a decade ago. I won a place at Moniack Mhor. I won a place at the HI-Arts Writer’s Masterclass, I won the Scottish Book Trust New Writer’s Award. I read my work on BBC radio and at The Usher Hall. I self-published my first novel, The January Flower. This was long-listed for the Polari first book award. I have been published in The Sunday Times, The Irish Times, Pen Pusher, Chroma and the HI-Arts Lit Sampler. I also represented the Highlands at the London Indie Book Fair.
I teach everything I ever learned, either from the classes I attended or via the mentors I had. My teachers and mentors include Angus Dunn, Peter Urpeth, Jane Rogers, Roger Hutchinson, Alan Bissett, Andrew Greig and Jen Hadfield and Donald S. Murray.
The cost is £35 per person per class. There are twelve classes in each course. Concessions are available, please contact tutor.
