Volunteer Opportunity – Reception

Newbold provides an opportunity to contribute to the work of the social enterprise whilst living and working in an intentional community. Newbold Trust offers an opportunity to live and work with like-minded people and partake in daily routines and practises.

All positions offered are residential posts where you have the chance to experience what it is like to live a more sustainable lifestyle practising social sustainability and live in a more holistic manner. Sharing skills, knowledge and supporting one another.

We have a 3-6 month opportunity to work in our Reception and events department.

Description :

The opportunity is for the second person in charge of the bookings and events at Newbold House, assisting the department manager and holding the department when the manager is off or on holidays.

The long-term volunteer will be offered a full training and continuous support to be able to liaise with guests and workshop leaders to:

 

-Take B&B bookings

-Answer phone calls and e-mails, re-directing them to the appropriate person when necessary.

-Answer queries about venue hire and workshops packages.

-Prepare daily and weekly updates for the team

-Help with the weekly cash-up

-Check people in and out, handle cash and card payments and register them.

-Help guests, workshops leaders and attendees with any inquiries they might have.

-Liaise with the Homecare and Kitchen departments about guests and workshops leaders inquiries. Skills Enthusiasm and organised approach to:

-working on own initiative and ability to multi-task, attention to details and good interpersonal and communication skills.

-Patience and willingness to help others.

 

Work shifts

A long-term volunteer at Newbold House works around 35 hours a week, from 9 until 5, or once a week from 9 until 4.

The long-term volunteer works 5 days a week, with 2 days off. Usually 4 days will be spent in the Bookings & Reception department, and 1 day in another department (maintenance, homecare, kitchen, garden), depending on the needs of the house.

These days might not be in a row, but the manager will always do her best to allocate fair days off. Breaks longer than 2 days can be requested to the manager, but no less than 2 weeks in advance.

The long-term volunteer will take part in community work as well, participating in 3 to 4 KPs (cleaning after meals) per week.

On exchange for your work, you will be offered full accommodation and vegetarian food (3 meals a day plus tea breaks), and the opportunity to be involved in Newbold’s daily life
and activities.
Accommodation might be either in the house or in the garden, in caravan or huts.
We do our best to provide volunteers with their own private accommodation, however please note that under some rare circumstances you might be asked to share with another volunteer.
